Department of Near Eastern Studies at Cornell University offers:

 

History of Iran NES 3658 / HIST 3658 I.Gocheleishvili

 

The course examines the most significant and defining stages of Iran’s historic development concentrating on events and individuals that shaped its past and present. Drawing from various sources we will view the events from variety of perspectives and, among other questions, will also touch on much debated issues such as the meaning of “the real Iranian” identity, relation of pre-Islamic Iranian practices and Islamic traditions in shaping of Iranian nation-state. The course will explore major developments in Iran’s history from the time of the first empires to modern republic.

Elementary, Intermediate and Advance level courses of Persian Language.

 

Elementary Persian I (fall semester) and II (spring semester)

Intermediate Persian I (fall semester) and II (spring semester)

Advanced Persian I (contact the department for availability)

 

The courses have been designed to orovide students with the ability to read, write, and speak in

Persian language on the levels progressing from the beginning to advanced.

The course is also intended to provide students with the general and specific knowledge about Iran.

The students will be introduced to various aspects of rich and diverse culture, traditions and customs

of the people of Iran, the past and present of the country.
