NYICE
The Whittaker lab is part of the NIH/NIAID Centers of Excellence for Influenza Research and Surveillance (CEIRS) network. CEIRS will lay the groundwork for the development of new and improved control measures for emerging and reemerging influenza viruses, including determining the prevalence of avian influenza viruses in animals in close contact with humans, understanding how influenza viruses evolve, adapt and transmit, and identifying immunological factors that determine disease outcome.
The CEIRS network comprises the following groups:
- Emory University, Principal Investigator: Dr. Richard Compans
- Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Principal Investigator: Dr. Adolfo Garcia-Sastre
- St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Principal Investigator: Dr. Robert Webster
- University of California, Los Angeles, Principal Investigator: Dr. Scott Layne
- University of Minnesota, Principal Investigator: Dr. Marguerite Pappaioanou
- University of Rochester, Principal Investigator: Dr. John Treanor
Dr. Whittaker’s lab is part of the New York Influenza Center of Excellence (NYICE), based at the University of Rochester Medical School with a research focus on the structure-function the viral hemagglutinin (HA). In this project, the Whittaker lab works closely with the lab of Dr. Brian Crane in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Cornell.
