Introduction

Thank you for your willingness to participate in this study. You are asked to imagine you are the sole consultant for an incumbent in a two candidate race for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. At the right side of the screen you’ll be provided with the following information: THE DISTRICT demographics and voting record, 2002 contributions, expenditures and vote; short bios of THE CANDIDATES; and a short BENCHMARK POLL taken by your campaign. This information will be available to you throughout the simulation, so there is no need to memorize it or take notes.

The simulation has ten steps. By clicking on the SUBMIT button at the bottom of each page you’ll be directed to the next step and will not be able to go back. Therefore, before pressing SUBMIT, make sure that you answer all question on the page to your satisfaction. Just like you would in a real campaign, please take into account your previous choices when making new ones (for example, if you make your candidate pro choice, don’t transform him at mid race to pro life). At the end of the simulation you will be asked to fill a survey to complement the study.

It is your job to get the incumbent, Michael Clark, reelected. As a professional, please leave your political views aside and do not let them distract you from your objective.

As you are aware, internet transmission is neither private nor secure, and answers may be read by a third part. To overcome this problem, you are asked to enter the personal 5 digit code you were provided in the email. This code guarantees that all of your responses are kept anonymous, and secures the overall confidentiality of the survey. This study is strictly voluntary; entering the code serves as an indication of your willingness to participate. Your answers here are completely confidential. In no way whatsoever will your personal responses be made public. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you for taking the time to participate in this study!              To enter the simulation, please enter your 5 digit code and press "Enter"
