  • Topic: Maximal Consistent sets in Normal Systems, Lindenbaum's Lemma, Soundness and Completeness.
  • Reading: Chellas: §§2.6–2.7 of Chapter 2; and §4.5 of Chapter 4; and §5.1, §§5.3–5.4 of Chapter 5.
  • Exercises (due Tuesday, 15 March): 2.42 (9) (i.e. part (9) of Theorem 2.18), 2.47, 2.48, 5.4.
  • Exercises (Due Thursday 31 March): 5.23, part (5) of Theorem 5.13. Extra credit: Prove that KG is complete with respect to the class of inscestual models (i.e., that the proper canonical model for KG is in the class of incestual models). Please start working on these as soon as you finish the exercises due on 15 March.

Preliminary Exam

• The prelim is a 2-hour evening exam to be held at 7:00PM on the evening of Thursday, 17 Mar 05 (during the week before Spring Break).
  Let me know right away if you have a conflict with this time.

  The exam will be open book (Chellas only) and open notes (your own notes only). But don't plan to rely too much on this, since you don't want to use your time during the exam searching through the book.
