Sections
Q: What happens on Fridays? How come lecture and
section are listed as happening at the same time?
Whenever there is a "You Try It" exercise in section of the book that you were assigned to read, we expect that you will have done that "You Try It" exercise on your own. Typically, important instructions about how to use the software are given in the "You Try It" exercises.Q: Am I allowed to copy someone else's computer files for the e-exercises and submit them as my own?
A: NO. This would count as plagiarism, and is a violation of academic integrity and University policy.Q: If I copy someone else's computer files for the e-exercises and submit them as my own, will my instructors be able to tell?
(This is a "duh" question. No-one actually asked it; but perhaps some should have. Please see the related next question.)
A: The answer to this question is YES. So don't be stupid.Q: May we collaborate on homeworks?
Not exactly. You are encouraged to discuss homework problems with each other, but your write-up must be your own.
A: Check the "just me" box when you are doing an exercise that is not to be turned in (e.g., a "You try it" exercise); or when you want to check whether you've done a problem correctly before you submit it to us. Check the "instructor too" box only when you want to send us your final answer to an exercise we've required you to turn in.Q: Should I submit my exercises to my section leader, or to the prof?
To the prof using her email address: dg89@cornell.edu.Q: Should I submit my exercises one by one or all together?
All together. Everytime you press the "Submit" button with the "instructor too" box checked we get an email from you. We should be receiving only one Submit-processed email from you for each problem set.
A: Normally, we have sections on Fridays. But from time to time we will not hold sections on Friday, but will instead meet for lecture in Kaufmann.
