Species Information and Diversity Links

The Species Analyst-Web Interface. Need information on a particular species? The North American Biodiversity Information Network provides access to multiple biological collection databases.

Endangered and Extinct Species Lists. This site provides access to lists of endangered species by region, group, or scientific name.

The Virtual Library of Ecology and Biodiversty. Students interested in conservation issues such as endangered species, exotic introductions and biodiversity will love this site.

The NCBI Entrez Taxonomy Homepage. The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) provides access to its taxonomy database through this site.

Teaching Biology Links

Population Biology, Evolution & Biomath Educational Index. WOW! This site is jam-packed with resources for teaching. You can access a variety of materials such as lecture notes, outlines and other teaching resources.

BioQUEST Curriculum Consortium. The teaching philosophy of BioQUEST is that biology students should learn biology through activities similar to those practiced by scientists. To spread this philosophy, BioQUEST offers workshops, archives teacher resources, and hosts a BioQUEST library.

Ecology Biology 408. Ecology readings, assignments, course syllabus and other resources are accessible through this site. Beware - some links have lots of photos and may take a long time to download. Consider turning off the images in your browser.

Society for Developmental Biology. The education link of the SDB's website is rich with resources for teaching developmental biology. On-line posters on science-education, hints to enliven lectures, and links to science humor sites are only some of the highlights found on this site.

Ecology Links

Environmental Sites on the Internet. This site provides links to a wide range of ecological and environmental links including conferences, internet tools and an extensive subject index. This resource would be ideal starting point for students interested in researching ecological topics on the internet.

California State University Biological Sciences Web Server. This source of internet biological resources includes ecological, evolutionary, and behavioral links.

UCSB Biogeography Lab Home Page. The UCSB uses GIS and remote sensing to study ecology, distribution, and conservation status of species and ecosystems. This site offers students access to current research projects that are investigating issues discussed in ecology classes.

Evolution Links

Centre for the Study of Evolution. CSE brings together evolutionary biologists from a variety of disciplines. Highlights of this website includes details of the lecture series entitled "Accelerating Adaptation" as well as links such as "Directed Evolution", Education Resources", "Human Evolution" and "Evolution News".

The Talk.Origins Archive. This site is a must-visit for evolution students. Links include: evolution versus creationism debate, the complete Origin of Species by Darwin, an essay on evolution, fact or theory, and an "All about Archaeopteryx" web page.

Bibliography of Genetic Variation in Natural Populations. Over 40,000 references on genetic variation can be found through this site.

General Biology Links

Scott's Botanical Link of the Day. From plants of the San Gabriel Mountains, to the Global Invsive Species Database, Dr. Scott Russell provides us with plant-related links each day. You can even subscribe to Scott's daily botanical links.

Homepage. Full-text of original papers, nineteenth century onwards. This site is a must-visit if you are fascinated by the history of biology. Donald Forsdyke has provided us with access to the full-text of original biology papers- some dating back to 1859.

Biology References and Resources. Links to a variety of biology related web sites from Richard Dawkins home page to a link to a guide to insect orders are included on this site.

Biolinks.com. This internet search engine for scientists provides access to journals, meetings, and job opportunities just to name a few.

SciTechResources.gov. provides access to government science and technology resources.
