So, you've each written a paper that makes a strong argument that we're in either an oral or a literate culture. First, take about 15 minutes and skim through a few people's papers - start with the name directly below yours on the course blog, and work downward from there. See how others have approached the topic, and what works and doesn't work for you. Leave comments if anything strikes you (but if offering criticism, be constructive).
After you've had a chance to look over a few papers, go to the one belonging to the name directly above yours on the course blog. First, summarize that paper's argument in one sentence. Then, compose a formal essay (no length requirements, but I want to see at least 500 words) that directly opposes that argument without directly referencing the paper or author in question. You can argue against the evidence offered as support, or you can offer other evidence that contradicts the paper's argument. However you choose to proceed, I want to see a clear, well-supported argument that directly contradicts the paper you're working from, but which at no point uses a phrase like "As so-and-so wrote..."
You've got until the end of class, so make your time count - nobody's leaving early, so take your time and write a good paper. Once you're done, post it on your blog and ping this post as well as the post for the paper to which you're responding.
