In the United States, at least 30% of adults have some refractive error requiring them to wear glasses or contacts. For several decades, techniques to surgically correct these errors by changing the shape of the cornea have been developed. It was not until lasers started to be used in the last several years, however, that this elective surgery became widespread. This website will give you an overview of the different kinds of refractive errors in vision and how lasers are being used to correct them.
