He enjoys golfing and flying small planes in his spare time.

Our family also includes a black labrador retriever (Ruger) and a yellow labardor retriever (Charle). They love to run, swim and share sticks they find on our hikes.

I was born in Detroit, Michigan, attended Cranbrook School, Williams College and earned my Ph.D. at Cornell, majoring in industrial and organizational psychology, with a minor in advertising in the business school. I worked for Eastman Kodak for five summers during graduate school-- receiving training in advertising photography and filmmaking. I have a consulting firm that provides presentations on sleep and performance to Fortune 500 companies, professional sports teams and medical associations.

When not focusing on my prime interest, Nancy and the boys, I spend time on my hobbies - flying, sailing, boating, fishing, tennis and golf ( I'm always happy to play with interested students at Cornell's great golf course). I am also the faculty adviser to the Men's Varsity Hockey Team, the Men's Varsity Golf Team and the Women's Golf Club Team. Nancy and I have been advisers to dormitories, sororities and fraternities. Our family enjoys such interactions and we attend several student dinners each year. We spend our summers in Charlevoix, Michigan, where the boating, fishing, swimming and golf are fabulous! I also lecture on Crystal Cruises throughout the world when schedules permit.

Make sure you say hello to me and my family whenever you see us. We would enjoy getting to know you!

Cindy Durbin

I have been the course administrator for psychology 101 since the summer of 1987. Although this part of my position in the Psychology Department is often challenging, it is also very exciting and rewarding. I received a bachelors degree in psychology from The State University of New York at Oswego. I am married to John Durbin, who is also employed at Cornell. We have two wonderful daughters, Jenna, 22 years old and Caitlyn, 19 years old. When I am not frantically coordinating Psychology 101, I enjoy spending time with my husband and daughters, scrapbooking, doing photography and gardening.

Meet the Cornell Graduate Teaching Assistants

Erik Helzer

I became interested in psychology because I was a philosophy student who was tired of merely thinking about problems. I wanted proof and data to back up my understanding of the world. I’m now a third year student in social psychology, studying a broad array of topics. How well do we know ourselves? How do we maintain the sense that we have free will? How do we sustain beliefs that bolster our sense of value and self-worth? Exploring these questions through experimentation drew me to psychology and continues to fuel much of my day-to-day research. If I’m spending my spare time as I’d like to, I’m probably watching Woody Allen movies, being a part of engaging conversation over beverages, taking a walk or exercising, or viewing baseball, all of which are better done in the company of friends. My email is: egh42@cornell.edu

Sunayana Banerjee

I am a final year Ph.D. student in the Behavioral and Evolutionary Neuroscience group at the Department of Psychology at Cornell University. My dissertation has involved studying neurotransmitters in the brain such as dopamine and how it plays a role in pair bond formation in a monogamous bird species- the zebra finch. In addition I have also been studying the role of early social environment on the development of mate choice in this species. In the future, I hope to have my own research group that is involved in studying how the brain mediates social behaviors such as pair bonding and parental behaviors. In addition to hobnobbing with zebra finches, I enjoy belly dancing, reading classics, running and listening to world music.my email is:sbb29@cornell.edu
