II. Example Slide Questions

Slide Identification, 36 points

Identify 12 of the 15 slides. They are three points each. Give the date and period of the item, where it was found and its importance. You will have 1.5 minutes per slide.

III. Example Essay Question

Short Answer - Mini Essay, 49 points

Answer question # 1 (16 points) and three of the remaining six questions (11 points each). Each question should be answered in ca. 14-18 minutes. Watch your time! Hint: Always give specific examples of what you are describing. Vague generalizations earn fewer points.

1. From the middle of the 8th c. until the end of the 7th c. Assyria was the imperial power which dominated the ancient near east, including the area of Israel. What are the most important Assyrian kings and events which provide examples of this expansion? What are some examples of Assyrian material culture found in Israel and Judah which attest to this growing Assyrian presence?
