Streaming Video of INFO 747 Lectures

Streaming video of the Spring 2005 lectures for INFO 747 are now available from this website. The videos for Sessions 1 and 2 are available in the Real Media format, and require the RealPlayer plugin which is available for free download from http://www.real.com/. The videos for Sessions 3 though 13 require the QuickTime Player plugin, which is also a free download at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/.

The video streams can be accessed from the INFO 747 Syllabus by clicking on the links labeled "(rm)" or "(mp4) beside each session. They will open in a new window and should begin to play automatically. It is not possible to download these videos to your harddrive. They are only available in the streaming format. However,it is still possible to watch the Quicktime videos in a standalone viewer. Simply right-click the "(mp4)" label in the main syllabus, and choose "save link as". The file you save should be called something like "info747-<session-number>-ref.mov". This is just a reference movie that calls up the video stream from the Quicktime Player. Opening this file in a standalone Quicktime Player will allow you to resize the video and to watch it in full-screen. This is especially recommended for the lectures in which the labs are discussed in detail.

At present, the formats of the videos vary. Some, but not all, incorporate an image of Prof. Abowd lecturing in the bottom corner. Most only feature the slideshow presentation and VRDC demonstrations conducted during the lecture. As a result, when you click on the video and it first begins to play, it may appear that there is sound and no video. This is not an error -- the video will appear after a few minutes. This is because frequently the class began before the slideshow presentation.
