These are the work of students
who chose to submit thier IdeaBook via the web; others were submitted in
paper. The comments pertain to the class as a whole.
Overall, I was pleased with the first IdeaBooks. They vary enormously in how information was presented, which is fine. As you go forward, keep the following points in mind:Holly Archer & Wendy Sponaugle · Would you want to show what you have done to a prospective employer or professional colleague? · As you build these up over the course of the semester, how will they work together for you? That is, will you be able to find key concepts/data, etc. if you should want to in the future. Think about overall organizing principles. · Please include references (can include web sites as well as articles, books, etc.) Idea is for you to be able to go back at some point in future and find original sources for more info. · Please devote part of each IdeaBook to IMPLICATIONS for planning and managing the office (can include RE implications, management, technology, space planning, etc.) · Think about trying to develop as a web file: just means may be easier for you to access from anywhere/anytime in the future. · For those of you who didnt do it this time around, try to convey more of the information using simple charts, bullets, graphs, figures, etc. More visually interesting, and if done right, also captures more information in less space. Also gives a sense of how you are making sense of what you are reading/hearing. IdeaBook 2 : Information Technology Holly Archer & Wendy SponaugleI am finding most of these interesting to read. Getting a sense of you. Many of them are very well done, rich with information presented in visually interesting and effective ways. As go forward, would like to encourage you to add to the information mix of tables, charts, graphs, quotes, bullet points of key issues, etc. (which is very important) a sense of your own viewpoint about what you are reading/hearing. Critically question readings and lecture (and in case of lecture, in class as well as in paper); ask provocative questions about what is being written and said; try to relate different concepts and ideas to each other; do they mesh/conflict? What are some of the "wicked problems" these new technologies and new ways of working engender? It is wonderful to have the flexibility to work anywhere and anytime; and overwhelming that work is always with you. What are ways out of these dilemmas?
