Vertebrate Biology labs offer
you the opportunity to examine first hand some of the diversity
we talk about in class. For lab we use the second edition of
"Labs for Vertebrate Zoology: an Evolutionary Approach",
by Gergus and Schuett. This manual includes comprehensive coverage
of diversity and adaptations of all vertebrate lineages.
Lab sections introduce you to species diversity
as well as form and function in various vertebrate groups. The
following activities are intermingled during the course of the
semester:
- diversity displays - we examine representatives
of various vertebrate groups
- comparative demonstrations - focus on
the evolution of structures as we work our way through the vertebrate
tree
- comparative dissections - examine the
evolution and diversity of internal and external morphology across
all vertebrates
